Beijing supports the Kazakh President Tokayev’s strong measures to quell the recent unrest in Almaty and in other parts of the country. Tens of billions of dollars has been invested by China in Kazakhstan, primarily into its lucrative energy sector. Kazakhstan serves a launching-pad for China's Belt and Road Initiative.
