The Human Tragedy in Burma/Myanmar
The ongoing human tragedy in Myanmar since the military’s coup in February has also affected the relationship between the country and China, one of its closest allies. Beijing has blocked a UN Security Council statement condemning the coup d’état as it has for decades played a role of “protecting” its neighboring country from international scrutiny. Recently anti-Chinese protests spread up in some areas of the country over rumors of continuous Beijing’s support for the military junta.
